The world’s biggest jailer–that’s what some quarters say of the US nowadays. More than 2 million Americans are in jail, and if we count those on probation and on parole, it can swell to more than 6 million. Or 1 in 35 adults. That’s a lot of prisoners in the land of the free–in fact more than the prisoners in China.
So, what happened to America?
It’s not really due to failure in peace and order, says observers, but having more severe laws today–like longer jail sentences and the like.
